Mrs. Janet Susan Holt, better known as Jan, 93, of Brilliant, passed away on Tuesday, June 11, 2024, in the Haleyville Health Care Center. Mrs. Holt was born in Marion County, on October 7, 1930, to Woodard Ira and Fammie Agnes Holcomb Bates. Jan was a member of the Northside Church of Christ and a resident of Brilliant all her life. She was employed for much of her life with various clothing manufacturing companies in the area, and as a cashier for Piggly Wiggly of Winfield before its closing. In her spare time, Jan enjoyed gardening, sewing, reading, and spending time with family.
Mrs. Holt is survived by daughters, Jawan Stanford of Brilliant and Joan Lauderdale of Bear Creek; grandchildren, Wayne Stanford, Larry Stanford (Holly), Kelly Harris (Darryl) and Damian Lauderdale; eight great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews and other family members.
Mrs. Holt was preceded in death by her husband, Hurst Holt; her parents; brothers, Howard and Clinton Bates; and sisters, Vena Lee Preston and Ann Sanderson.
A time of remembrance was held on June 15, 2024, in the McGraw Chapel of the Miles Memorial Funeral Home. Burial followed in the Bethel Cemetery near Brilliant.
