GUIN — The Marion County High School Red Raiders hosted the Brilliant Tigers on Tuesday night, Jan. 10th.
The Lady Tigers won an extremely close game against the Lady Raiders by one point, 51-50. The game was a close match the entire time, with Marion County going ahead by two right at the buzzer for halftime. The Raiders were only leading by three points at the end of the third quarter, and the Lady Tigers were able to close the gap within the final minute of the game. Brilliant’s Macy Moore shot two free-throws with a little over 20 seconds to go that put the Lady Tigers ahead by one. They held on for the final seconds and won the game.
Moore scored 16 points for the Lady Tigers, and Abby Humphries scored 13 points and made eight rebounds.
The boys’ game was not close, and ended in a 92-18 victory for the Red Raiders. Marion County took an early lead, ending the first quarter with a 28-9 lead. They kept up the pace and left Brilliant behind, only allowing three points from the Tigers in each of the following quarters.
Joe Aldridge and Landon Morrow each scored 18 points. Morrow made 10 rebounds. Tye Madison and Jameson Webb each scored 17 points.
Aldridge and Morrow were presented with a ball at halftime during the girls’ game for some of their career stats. Over the course of their careers, Aldridge has scored over 1,000 points, and Morrow has made over 1,000 rebounds.
On Jan. 11, the Brilliant Lady Tigers won against Hubbertville 60-25. Moore put in 21 points and 8 steals. Hadlee Sanderson grabbed 14 points and 8 rebounds.
On Jan. 12, the Lady Tigers won again against Hackleburg 50-34. Moore had 19 points, Sanderson had 9 points and 8 rebounds, Tatum Barton had 7 points and 6 rebounds and Humphries had 6 points, 5 rebounds and 3 steals.
