Tupelo, Miss. – Hamilton’s Jamie Colburn is on the fight card.
Colburn, 17, a recent graduating senior of Hamilton High School, will square off in the ring with Elijah Williams of Tupelo, Miss. The fight will take place during TCB Fights’ BIG Time Boxing event on Saturday night, June 12, at the Tupelo Furniture Market Building #4.
Doors will open at 6 p.m. and fights will kick off at 7. Thirteen fights are currently slated for the night, which is in conjunction with the 20th Annual Elvis Festival. Colburn, who is 5-foot, 10-inches and weighs in at 132 pounds, is the son of Jennifer and Matt Lay. He has been training with I-Deal Fitness coaches Jeremy Booth and Cody Harris for the past two-and-a-half years.
Williams trains with Ultimate Fitness and Mixed Martial Arts (UFM) in Tupelo under trainer Grady Sue Hurley. According to Harris, this will be Williams’ third time in the rings. Colburn will be fighting competitively for the first time.
The lightweight match will consist of three, two-minute rounds. The match will end with a judge’s decision if there is no clear winner during the rounds. Colburn says he is entering his debut match with a game plan.
“My style focuses on speed, head movement and angles,” Colburn said. “I’m expecting a hard fight but I am gonna try to not let it go to the judges.”
Colburn is looking to make competitive boxing a regular discipline for him and wants to continue to be booked in fights for as long as he can.
Weigh-ins will be held at 5:30 p.m. on Friday, June 11, with a free concert by southern rock band Blacktop Ridge. The June 12 event will feature performances by an Elvis tribute artist and food available from Steele’s Dive. Tickets are available for purchase by visiting fightertix.com/tcb.
