Hilda Marie Thomas

Hilda Marie Thomas, 93, of Winfield, formerly of Arab, passed away Tuesday, April 7, 2026. She was born Oct. 31, 1932, in Jackson County, the youngest child of Capron F. Gibbs and Essie Mae Crow Gibbs.
She was a graduate of Jackson County High School. She was married to Douglas Truett Thomas for 53 years at the time of his passing on March 10, 2005. While a residence of Arab, she was a faithful member of the Arab First Baptist Church. Shortly after the passing of her husband, she moved to Winfield to be close to her children and became a member of Winfield First Baptist Church.
She is survived by her children, Kathy Spruiell (Dr. M. Dale Spruiell), Milford Earl “Milt” Thomas and Dr. Gary Douglas Thomas (Lisa); grandchildren, Anna Kittinger, Dr. Lawson Spruill (Dr. Amy Thomas), Dr. Murray Spruiell (Holly), Dr. Douglas Reed Thomas (Caroline) and Ella Thomas; great-grandchildren, Jackson, Adelae, Pace, Sawyer, Emmy, Colin and Davis; and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Doug Thomas; parents, C.F. and Essie Gibbs; and siblings,  Wilma Wilbanks and C.F. Gibbs Jr.
Funeral services were held on April 11, 2026, at Gober Funeral Chapel with Dr. Paul Murphy officiating. The burial followed in Arab Memorial Cemetery.
