Lady Aggies take Gold Championship

HAMILTON — The Hamilton Lady Aggies won the volleyball invitational on Saturday, Sept. 21, in the Hamilton High School gym.
The Aggies started the tournament against the Dora Bulldogs, winning both sets to claim victory.
The first set ended 25-18 for the Aggies while the second set finished at 25-12.
In their first game against Dora, Hamilton’s Aubrey Sorrells had eight kills, while Jordan Parker had six, Ella Cantrell had five and McKenna Taylor and Gracie Childers both had one.
Game two of the day saw Hamilton defeating  the Lynn Bears in a 2-0 sweep scoring 25-14 in the first game and 25-4 in the second.
Parker was top of the list for kills this time with seven while Sorrells had four and Cantrell recorded three.
Hamilton had another clean sweep of the South Lamar Stallions as they won a narrow first set 25-20 and a second set 25-14.
It was Cantrell’s turn to lead on kills as she recorded seven while Zee Woodson and Childers recorded two and Taylor recorded one.
Hamilton had a rematch with the Bulldogs in the Gold Bracket Championship, winning narrowly in the first set 26-24 and losing 22-25 in the second. Hamilton was able to wrap up the matchup in the third set, winning 15-6.
Parker had an impressive nine kills in the game while Cantrell had six and Sorrells and Taylor recorded four each.
Hamilton’s championship game would see them matched up with the Meek Tigers, where they would win two straight, 25-13 in the first set and 25-16 in the second and final set of the day.
Parker impressed again alongside Cantrell with 11 kills each while Taylor recorded two and Sorrells recorded one kill.
Marion County High School also played in the weekend tournament.
The Hackleburg Lady Panthers were scheduled to compete as well, but had to pull out of the tournament due to illness.
