Irene Eads, 88, of North Charleston, S.C., formerly of the Hubbertville community in Alabama, passed away on Monday, Feb. 20, 2023 at her residence. Mrs. Eads was born Nov. 4, 1934 in Fayette County, Ala., to Hollie and Ludie McCollum Whitehead. Irene was a graduate of Hubbertville High School and a member of the North Charleston Church of Christ in South Carolina. Mrs. Eads loved to travel. Her husband Harold Eads, being in the military, allowed them to move all over the world. Irene spent much of her life as a homemaker taking care of her husband and daughters but also found time to work in the education center of several U.S. Air Force installations, assisting airmen who were pursuing higher education. After her husband’s retirement from the service, she worked in real estate alongside him. In her spare time, she was very active in her church community and loved to play golf, bird watch and work in her flower beds.
Mrs. Eads is survived by her husband of 72 years, Harold Eads; daughters, Debrah McDonald and Cynthia Currence; grandchildren, Jeremy McDonald (Nicole), Jennifer McDonald, Kathryn Currence and Anna O’Neal (Adam); great-grandchildren, Madisyn Moshier, Rachel McDonald, Shelby Cross and Solei Currence; and a host of nieces, nephews and other family members.
Mrs. Eads was preceded in death by her parents, and sisters, Charlene “Cricket” Hollingsworth and Nadean Howell.
A private family service for Mrs. Eads was held on Sunday, Feb. 26, 2023 with burial following in the Whites Chapel Church of Christ Cemetery.
