BEAR CREEK — The Phillips Bears had a banner week on the court, knocking off two of their area rivals on Tuesday, Dec. 13.
The Bears welcomed Belgreen and came out with a strong 55-41 victory. It was the first time the Bears have defeated Belgreen in seven years, as well as Belgreen’s first area loss in four years.
The win over Belgreen was also a momentous night for senior point guard Hayden Hulsey, who scored his 1,000th career point during the game. He was presented a special game ball for his accomplishment.
The Bears then traveled to Hackleburg for another area match-up Thursday, Dec. 15, coming away with a 56-42 victory.
The victories put the Bears in pole position within Class 1A, Area 14, with a 4-1 record at the time. Their overall record was 8-2.
The Phillips She Bears got their first win on the season Thursday, Dec. 15, defeating Hackleburg 53-43 on the road for an area win.
Due to Christmas break, there were no stats available from any of these games.
