Board makes personnel changes, approves pay raise

WINFIELD - The Winfield City Board of Education made a few last-minute hires and accepted a resignation during a special-called meeting at the WCBOE board room at Winfield Middle School on Tuesday, July 30.
The board voted to approve Superintendent Chris Cook’s recommendation to hire Carrie Jackson as a kindergarten through 6th grade (K-6) teacher. Jackson is the wife of newly hired Winfield City High School (WCHS) Principal Keith Jackson. Carrie Jackson was recently employed as a teacher at Northridge High School in Tuscaloosa where her husband was the assistant principal. Keith Jackson was hired on Thursday, June 20.
At the July 30 meeting, the board also voted to hire Allyson Tilly as a K-6 teacher and to accept the resignation of WCHS math teacher Josh Gurley who has accepted a position as assistant principal at Hubbertville High School (HHS). The former assistant principal at HHS, Dustin Silas, was hired by the Marion County Board of Education as the Marion County High School principal on July 3.
At a special-called meeting on July 18, the board voted to hire Sammy Wallace for the Winfield Middle School custodial position. The board also voted to hire Mallory Long as the Winfield Elementary School assistant principal.
