Holy Spirit Catholic crushes Brilliant

BRILLIANT — Brilliant’s football streak continues with their eighth loss this season. On Friday, Oct. 14, the Brilliant Tigers lost against the Tuscaloosa based Holy Spirit Catholic High School 56-0.
Brilliant received the kickoff and managed to take it 65 yards, before punting. On first down, Terry Collins was able to take it in for a touchdown. Holy Spirit’s PAT was good, lighting the scoreboard 7-0, HS.
As the second quarter began, Collins once more got the touchdown after a 40 yard pass. Another good PAT put the score 14-0, HS.
As Brilliant began working the field, a fumble was recovered by Holy Spirit giving them first down at midfield. Colby Phillips had the honor of the next touchdown after a 45 yard run. The PAT put the score at 21-0, HS.
A fumble by Brilliant gave Holy Spirit’s William Mack a return touchdown. Their PAT was good, adding 28 points to Brilliant’s zero.
Another fumble recovery return gave Alex Tant the touchdown honor. A good PAT gave them 35 points.
After forcing Brilliant to punt, Phillips received the punt for yet another touchdown. A good PAT made the score 42-0, HS to end the second quarter.
Brilliant’s defense kept Holy Spirit at bay during the third quarter, but it wasn’t to last.
Another fumble by Brilliant was recovered for a touchdown by Ben Kornegay. This time, the PAT was no good with a score of 48-0, HS.
Reed Simmons was handed the ball after the snap and was able to get a clear path 61 yards to the end zone for Holy Spirit’s final touchdown. A two point conversion gave the final score of 56-0, HS.
Brilliant totaled 179 yards, with 29 passing and 150 rushing. Holy Spirit totaled 264 yards, with 211 of those passing and 53 rushing.
Brilliant will travel to Berry this Friday, while Holy Spirit travels to Sumiton Christian.
