HAMILTON - FreedomFiber will get a local boost in its journey to expand high-speed broadband internet service to northwest Alabama.
During a meeting on Monday, Dec. 7, the Hamilton City Council voted unanimously to provide Tombigbee Communications with a five-year abatement on its local three-cent sales-and-use tax in order to assist the company in its large-scale broadband intuitive.
“The tax abatement will help us do this heavy lifting and is tremendously important,” said Tombigbee Chief Executive Officer Steve Foshee, who was in attendance at the meeting.
“We started this project here in Hamilton in 2017,” Foshee said. “Based on Census data, about 80% of its residents have signed up for our service.”
