BRILLIANT -  The Brilliant Tigers punched their ticket to the postseason on Friday night, Oct. 23, after claiming a hardfought 21-20 victory over the Red Raiders of Marion County High School in a pivotal Class 1A, Region 6 matchup.
Marion County was the first team to find the end zone, but Brilliant used three second quarter scores to gain a comfortable 21-6 lead before heading into the halftime break.
The Raiders tightened down on defense in the second half, however and their offensive efforts matched as they closed in on the Tigers’ lead. Marion County posted the only two scores of the second half as it found the end zone once in each of the final two quarters.
The Tigers would not allow the game to slip  away from them, however as the Brilliant defensive unit made the play of the game when it denied the Red Raiders of a two-point conversion that would have awarded the visiting squad a 22-21 lead with 1:36 left in the contest.
