HAMILTON — To help those living in the State of Alabama prepare for severe weather, the state has been holding an Annual Severe Weather Preparedness Sales Tax Holiday for 15 years.
Sales tax exempt items can be purchased beginning Friday, Feb. 20, at 12:01 a.m. through Sunday, Feb. 22, at midnight.
Most of the municipalities and counties in the state also participate, so savings can multiply on big and small purchases.
Portable generators costing $1,000 or less are among the largest items available for savings.
Eligible items costing $60 or less (per item) include batteries, phone chargers, weather radios, flashlights, tarpaulins, plastic sheeting, plastic drop cloths, plywood, food and water storage containers, duct tape, fire extinguishers, smoke detectors, fuel tanks and more.
A complete list of eligible items can be found by searching for “Alabama Severe Weather Sales Tax Holiday Fact Sheet,” visiting revenue.alabama.gov or calling the state’s sales and use tax division at 334-242-1490 during office hours.
