Marion County Veterans Day Program set for Wednesday, Nov. 12

HAMILTON — The Fourth Annual Marion County Veterans Day Program will be held this year on Wednesday, Nov. 12, from 9 a.m. until noon at the Bevill Business & Community Center on the campus of Bevill State Community College-Hamilton.
The event is open to all veterans, their families and their friends.
Marion County Veterans Service Officer Marlon Holloway has noted that, although the event is held in Hamilton, veterans from other cities throughout the entire county and even from surrounding areas are all invited.
“This special event is held each year to honor our veterans who served our country, those on the home front and the heroes who made the ultimate sacrifice,” he said.
The event begins with a casual meet-and-greet at 9 a.m., with coffee and cinnamon rolls, allowing the veterans to visit together.
The program begins at approximately 9:45 a.m. Among ceremonial-related activities, special guests include Marine Sergeant Major Ronnie Dickey (retired) and the Marine Corps Color Guard of Bessemer. Also scheduled to appear are Bevill President Dr. Joel Haygood and outgoing Hamilton Mayor Bob Page.
Lunch will begin near 10:45 a.m., with veterans served first, and then families and guests invited to join in.
The event includes a closing ceremony and the playing of Taps.
Immediately after the event, all veterans present will be invited to gather for a commemorative group photo.
The main sponsors for the annual Veterans Day program are Bevill State and the City of Hamilton. Other monetary sponsors include the Marion County Commission, Alabama Power and Tombigbee Electric Cooperative.
Businesses, organizations or individuals wishing to show their support of veterans and help sponsor the program may do so at anytime throughout the year. Hamilton City Hall is the location to leave donations in care of the special program.
The GPS address for Bevill State is 1333 Military St. S., Hamilton, AL 35570. For more information, Holloway can be contacted at 205-921-3161.
