Emogean Hunsinger

Ms. Emogean Cox Hunsinger, 92, of Haleyville, formerly of Birmingham, passed away on Friday, Oct. 17, 2025, at her residence. Emogene was born in Eldridge, Ala., on Feb. 20, 1933, to Dewey and Mary Ellin Evans Cox.
Emogean lived life to the fullest; she loved life and helping others. At a young age, she married and moved to the Birmingham area and worked various jobs from delivering the Birmingham News, working in the textile factories to sign making and screen printing. She loved all kinds of sports including bowling, water skiing and roller skating. Emogean enjoyed traveling, dancing, listening to live music, sewing, working in her yard, building flower beds and waterfalls. She was a member of The Healing Place Church in Trussville and would volunteer with different projects such as helping prepare meals for the homeless and taking care of the flower gardens at church.
She is survived by her daughter, Brenda Doss of Mobile; grandchildren, Kristy Sheffield (Michael) and Jonathan Doss, both of Mobile, Jeffery Hunsinger and Michelle Hunsinger, both of Birmingham and Christopher Hunsinger of New York; six great-grandchildren; sisters, Margaret McKinney of Mich., Lynda Barber of Haleyville and Martha Miles (Jimmy Dale) of Winfield; sisters-in-law, Geneva Cox, of Adamsville and Annette Williams of Red Bay; and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
Emogean was preceded in death by her parents; her son, David Hunsinger; a granddaughter, Amy Hunsinger; sisters, Mary Lou Burnett and Willma Fay Cox; brothers, Junior, Billy, Charles, Larry and O’Neal Cox; and brothers-in-law, Dave McKinney and Ralph Burnett.
Visitation will be held on Oct. 29, 2025, from 11 a.m. until noon service time at the Bowen Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in the Jefferson Memorial Gardens in Birmingham.
