$13 million state of the art jail facility for Marion County

There’s a new jail in town! Marion County Sheriff Kevin Williams stands in front of the new Marion County Detention Center, which also houses the Marion County Sheriff’s Department and the Emergency Management Agency.

MARION COUNTY — The Marion County Commission is proud to announce the official opening of the new Marion County Detention Facility, a milestone achievement in the county’s continued commitment to public safety, responsible governance and community well-being.
This state-of-the-art facility has been carefully designed with both security and functionality at the forefront. Equipped with the latest in modern technology, the new detention center will provide a safer, more efficient environment for both staff and inmates. The new facility will also enhance operational capabilities for law enforcement personnel across the county.
In addition to the detention center, the facility includes a newly developed Emergency Communications Center, designed to improve coordination and response times during emergency events—further strengthening public safety infrastructure across the region.
“This facility represents not just a building, but a long-term investment in the safety and future of Marion County,” said Marion County Commission Chairman Greg Gunnin. “We are proud of what this project means for our law enforcement professionals and our community as a whole.”
The Marion County Commission extends its sincere gratitude to all who played a role in bringing this project to life, with special thanks to Sheriff Kevin Williams, Angie Berry and WAR Construction for their leadership, expertise and dedication throughout the planning and construction process.
The opening of the new detention facility marks a transformative step forward in Marion County’s public service mission, and stands as a symbol of progress, partnership and preparedness.
