WINFIELD — The Winfield Pirates won games against the Gordo Greenwave and the Vernon (Lamar County) Bulldogs last week.
The Lady Pirates defeated Gordo on the road 56-20 on Monday night, Jan. 13.
Kennah Beth Lacy led in scoring with 15 points, followed by Julie Anderson with 7 and Jayci Griffin with 5.
The following night, Jan. 14, the Lady Pirates defeated the visiting Lady Bulldogs 42-22.
Lacy led the way again with 17 points, followed by Kylah May and Griffin with 6 each, and Anderson and Miley Franks with 3 each.
Winfield’s boys also saw two victories last week, starting with Gordo on Jan. 13.
The Pirates won the game 41-32, with Slate Gilbert bringing in the most points (18).
Sean Wyers, Kruz Box and Garret Beasley scored 6 each, Silas Rainey scored 3 and Miles Miles scored 2.
The following night, back at home against the Bulldogs, the Pirates won a close game 57-54.
Wyers led this game in points, scoring 15, followed by Gilbert with 11, and Box and Beasley with 8 each.
The Winfield Lady Pirates played in the first round of the Marion County Tournament yesterday against the Brilliant Lady Tigers. The winner of that game will play Hackleburg tomorrow, who will then face the winner out of Phillips, Marion County and Hamilton in the final round Friday.
The Pirates played against the hosting Marion County Red Raiders yesterday afternoon, and the winner of that game will play the Phillips Bears tomorrow in the semi-final round. That winner will play the winner out of Brilliant, Hackleburg and Hamilton in the final round this Friday.
