Lions take down Hackleburg Panthers

HUBBERTVILLE — The Hubbertville Lions won their homecoming game against the visiting Hackleburg Panthers 51-24 on Friday, Sept. 24.
The Lions were the first to score, only 13 seconds into the game. Gage Alexander ran for 60 yards to score, and with the point after the Lions were ahead 7-0.
With around five minutes left in the first quarter, the Panthers returned fire as Blaise Vickery threw an 11-yard touchdown pass to Josh Cooper. Carter got two points for the Panthers, putting them in a narrow 8-7 lead.
But Alexander ran again with 3:35 left in the quarter, making it 23 yards for another touchdown and extra point. The Lions were leading the Panthers 14-8 at the end of the quarter.
The Lions scored again with 9:19 left in the second quarter as Greyson Key ran nine yards to score and the extra point was good.
Now behind 21-8, the Panthers got the ball back and scored again. Vickery threw a seven-yard pass to Daniel Cooper, and Josh Cooper caught a pass to gain two more points.
With the score sitting at 21-16, the Lions score two more times before the half was over.
Tucker Bowen kicked a 28-yard field goal, and TJ Keeton caught a pass from Alexander for another touchdown. Kolby Strickland ran to score two more points.
At the end of the half, the Lions were still leading the Panthers 32-16.
Alexander scored again for the Lions in the third quarter, and with no point after they were leading 38-16.
For the Lions, Carter Hollingsworth had a 45-yard touchdown reception with no points afterward.
 Keeton made a six-yard touchdown run with a good point after attempt.
The Panthers scored one final touchdown with 35 seconds left in the game.
Vickery threw a 21-yard touchdown pass to Josh Cooper, and Jaquan Reeder caught a pass to earn two more points, but it wasn’t enough to change the outcome of the game.
In the end, the Lions walked away with the win, winning their homecoming game 51-24.
The Panthers will play their next game on October 1 at home against Shoals Christian.
