HACKLEBURG - The seasonal Re-Run Consignment sale will have to find a different venue this spring.
During its meeting on Monday, Feb. 10, the Hackleburg Town Council procedurally denied a request by local business owner Jessica Pruitt to occupy the Hackleburg Recreational Center Gymnasium for four weeks to conduct the sale.
The consignment sale was held in the gym in both the fall and spring of 2019.
HACKLEBURG – After a lengthy, heated discussion, town officials have increased Hackleburg Town Clerk Carla Rector’s pay to $630 a week.
The Hackleburg Town Council addressed Rector’s pay during its Monday, Jan. 27, council meeting.
Rector, who has worked for the town for six years, has made $592 a week, or $14.80 an hour, without being compensated for overtime since 2014.
HACKLEBURG – The 19th Annual Neighbor Day festival has been set for Friday night and Saturday, April 24 and 25.
The Hackleburg Town Council voted 5-0 to set the town’s Neighbor Day festival for the fourth weekend in April during its Monday, Jan. 27, meeting. Councilwoman Tabby Lolley was absent.
The council had previously discussed the possibility of moving Neighbor Day and combining it with the July 4th Fireworks Celebration during its Dec. 19, 2019, meeting. Holding the festival the first weekend of May was also discussed.
HACKLEBURG – Officials have reiterated that public access to the Hackleburg recreation center’s gymnasium is limited to special requests for six months out of the year.
The Hackleburg Town Council discussed the issue during its meeting on Monday, Jan. 13, at the request of councilmember Darrin Wiginton.
“I just want to know what the schedule is on it,” Wiginton told the council, explaining he was wanting to see if there were times the gym could be accessed by the public.
HACKLEBURG – City officials will wait to hire more full-time help for the Hackleburg Street Department.
The Hackleburg Town Council voted 2-3 during its first meeting of the new year on Monday, Jan. 13, to post a full-time position with the local street department.
Council members Eugene Marbutt and Tabby Lolley voted in favor of posting the position, while mayor Darryl Colburn and councilors Don Barnwell and Darrin Wiginton voted no, blocking the measure. Councilmember Kevin Barnwell was absent during the meeting.
HACKLEBURG – Jonathan Outz has been promoted as the new Hackleburg Police Chief.
The Hackleburg Town Council voted unanimously to promote Outz with a 90-day probation period during a two-hour council meeting held on Thursday, Dec. 19.
Former chief Jeremy Marbutt served in the position for roughly 10 months. He announced his resignation on social media in December, explaining he had accepted another local position. His official last day on the job was Friday, Nov. 29.
HACKLEBURG – Radio business owner Hutty Hutcheson will pay a flat rate of $500 a month beginning Jan. 1 to rent space from the Town of Hackleburg.
Hutcheson owed the town multiple months’ rent and utility bills for using the old town hall building, where Hutcheson operates his radio station, Big 95.5.
Hackleburg Town Clerk Carla Rector told the Hackleburg Town Council at its meeting on Thursday, Dec. 19, that Hutcheson is now up-to-date on his rent payments.
Hutcheson’s rent was set at $300 a month plus utilities in last year’s contract.
HACKLEBURG - The Hackleburg Town Council unanimously approved of the purchase of various safety equipment items for the Hackleburg Police Department during a regular meeting on Monday, Oct. 14, at the Hackleburg Town Hall.
Hackleburg Police Chief Jeremy Marbutt was present to address the council about the needs of the department during the meeting.
One of the key needs Marbutt discussed for the department was an Active Shooter Kit for five of the police cars in the department.
HACKLEBURG - Hackleburg Mayor Darryl Colburn now has the authority to sign over the deed to the Hackleburg Market to brothers Phillip and Chris Bozeman of Bozeman Family Grocery after the town council voted in favor of Colburn’s proposal 4-1.
The vote was made during a special-called meeting on Thursday, Sept. 12, in Hackleburg.
Council members Darrin Wiginton, Don Barnwell, Colburn and Eugene Marbutt voted in favor of Colburn’s proposal, while councilman Kevin Barnwell voted against it. Councilwoman Tabby Lolley was absent during the meeting.
HAMILTON - Grocery store owner Wally Kemp is shutting down his market after five years of running the Hackleburg Market in the over $2 million town-owned building.
The building that the store has been operating in is owned by the Town of Hackleburg and now leaves the town council with a major decision to make as the market’s closing will leave the town’s citizens without a major grocery store.
Mayor Daryl Colburn called a work session on Tuesday, July 30, to discuss what to do with the building once the current owner leaves.
