WINFIELD — North Mississippi Health Services-South Marion received a notice of deficiencies from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) regarding pricing transparencies starting in late April.
Around 20 Alabama hospitals received similar letters as the Trump administration seeks stronger transparency rules regarding pricing for medical services. Hospitals are required to disclose standard pricing for items and services, along with rates charged to insurance, discounts and other pricing information.
There were two types of letters sent: warning notices and corrective action plan requests, with the potential of serious fines if hospitals don’t meet compliance.
Some hospitals, such as UAB, have issued statements saying the information these letters were based on is outdated and the issues have been resolved.
When asked about the matter regarding the hospital in Winfield, North Mississippi Health Services issued a brief statement also claiming the information that led to the warning being sent was outdated, and might have faced confusion by the recent change in management.
“North Mississippi Health Services, including North Mississippi Health Services-South Marion, is fully compliant with CMS Hospital Price Transparency Requirements,” NMHS said in its statement. “A notice of deficiencies was received by NMHS-South Marion but was based on incorrect information due to the recent name and management changes. This was fully rectified with CMS as per the CMS letter dated April 23, 2026.”
