Interstate havoc: Winfield man arrested for murder

ATHENS — A Winfield man left a trail of devastation behind on Interstate 65 in Limestone County last Tuesday, May 6.
According to a report from the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency, along with court documents, John Walter McAdams, 31, of County Highway 149 in Winfield, driving a 2000 Peterbilt tractor-trailer, struck a vehicle, resulting in the death of a Birmingham man.
The report stated a previous crash occurred between the Peterbilt and a 2017 Nissan Sentra, driven by Gabrielle H. Furline, 20, of Athens. Furline was injured and transported to Athens Hospital for treatment. Then at approximately 6:40 p.m., the Peterbilt struck a 2009 Chevrolet Impala driven by William Deon Hardrick, 22, of Birmingham. The Impala left the roadway, struck a fence, struck a guardrail and then overturned. Hardrick was pronounced deceased at the scene.
McAdams did not stop and fled the scene of the crash. After striking multiple vehicles, the Peterbilt eventually came to a stop and caught fire.
