Track and Field season off to strong start


Haleyville’s Hunter Reynolds, Winfield’s Gunner Cagle, Ian Kennedy and Garrett Beasley, and Hamilton’s Joseph Bullen race in the boys’ 100m dash at the Buttahatchee Bottom Invite in Hamilton on Thursday, March 13, the first meet at Hamilton’s new track and field facility.

Track and field teams from around the county have competed in several meets as outdoor season is underway, including the first meet hosted in Hamilton’s new track facility.
The first meet was the 19th Annual Icebreaker Invitational hosted by Winfield on Saturday, March 1.

Icebreaker
The Hamilton Aggies won the boys’ meet with 118 points and finished second in the girls’ meet with 104 points. (Jasper won the girls meet with Fayette in third, and Fayette and Jasper took second and third in the boys’ meet).
Also in the girls’ meet, Winfield placed sixth with 42 points, Marion County placed ninth with 36 points and Phillips placed 11th with 18 points.
In the boys’ meet, Winfield placed fourth with 75 points, Marion County placed ninth with 24 points and Phillips placed 16th with one point.
Hamilton’s Kyra Casey won the girls’ 100-meter dash in 13.20 seconds.
In the boys’ 110m hurdles, Hamilton’s Hayden Ables placed second in 16.09, and Winfield’s Kane Hendrix placed third in 16.10.
Hamilton’s Joshua Webb won the boys’ 1600m run in 4:38.92, and Kaden Whitaker placed third in 4:49.57. Ables won the boys’ 400m in 52.05.
Ables also won the boys’ 300m hurdles in 42.23 seconds. Hendrix placed third in 42.91 seconds.
Webb placed third in the boys’ 800 in 2:08.29.
Casey also won the girls’ 200m in 27.07 seconds.
Marion County’s Carter Stephens placed third in the boys’ 3200 in 10:47.76. Whitaker won in 10:37.19.
Marion County’s Lily Robinson placed second in girls’ high jump with a total height of 4’10”.
Hamilton’s Taylor Biggerstaff placed second in girls’ pole vault with a mark of 8’.
Hamilton’s Elijah Robinson and Ian Cole placed first and third in boys’ pole vault with marks of 13’7” and 12’, respectively.
Hamilton’s Gracie Sanderson placed second in girls’ triple jump with a mark of 31’4”.
Phillips’ Natalee Ward placed third in girls’ discus with a distance of 95’6”. Ward also placed second in javelin with 98’1”, followed by Hamilton’s Myia Sizemore in third with 96’1”.
Winfield’s Sean Wyers won boys’ discus with a distance of 144’9”. Marion County’s Sam Williams placed second with 117’10”.
Winfield’s MaKayla May won girls’ discus with a distance of 33’10”.
Wyers and fellow Pirate Kaden Williamson took first and second in boys’ shot put with marks of 45’ and 43’.
In the relays, Hamilton placed third and second in the girls’ and boys’ 4x800m relays. The Lady Aggies also placed third in the 4x100 and 4x400.

NAC
Marion County, Hackleburg, Brilliant, Phillips and Lynn competed in the North Alabama Conference Championship on Wednesday, March 12.
Marion County won both the girls’ and boys’ meets. The boys won with 171.5 points, and the girls won with 253 points.
In the girls’ meet, Hackleburg placed second with 83 points, Phillips placed third with 80 points, Lynn placed fourth with 47 points and Brilliant placed fifth with 29 points.
In the boys’ meet, Hackleburg was second with 158 points, Phillips was third with 156 points, Lynn was fourth with 62.5 points and Brilliant was fifth with 48 points.
Marion County won the girls’ 4x100, and Hackleburg won the boys’ 4x100 relay.
Marion County’s Claire LeDuke, Bailey Woods and Cooper Reese Williams swept the girls’ 1600.
Carter Stephens and Daniel Hernandez took first and second in the boys’ 1600, with Phillips’ Levi Nix taking third.
Phillips’ Emma Kate Gilliam won the girls’ 100m hurdles, trailed by Hackleburg’s Raegan Pharr in second.
Adarian Thompson brough in another win for Phillips in the boys’ 110m hurdles, followed by Hackleburg’s Cameron Ingram and Jaydin Ware.
Marion County’s Zella Williams claimed first place in the girls’ 400m, followed by Phillips’ Emma Kate Gilliam and Marion County’s Kylee Smith.
In the boys’ 400m, Phillips’ Dorian Hernandez won with a time of 57.29 seconds, just in front of Hackleburg’s Daughtry Gober (57.36 seconds). Phillips’ Hayden Jordan placed third.
Hackleburg’s Carson Browning won the girls’ 100m dash, followed by Marion County’s Madison Lipsey and Brilliant’s Brooke O’Mary. Browning also won the girls’ 200m.
Marion County’s Tye Madison won the boys’ 100m, followed by Phillips’ Hernandez and Brilliant’s Taylon Odom.
Marion County’s Bekah Junkin, Cooper Reese Williams and Zella Williams swept the girls’ 800m.
In the boys’ 800m, Stephens brought in another win for the Raiders, and Phillips’ Noah Ward placed third.
Marion County’s Ace Tankersly won the boys’ 200m, followed by Hernandez from Phillips and Odom for Brilliant.
The Hackleburg Panthers won the boys’ 4x400m relay in 4:09.92.
Lilly Franks, Tye Madison and Brently Dennis swept in pole vault for Marion County, and Alecia Shack-Donaldson, Lily Robinson and Junkin swept girls’ high jump.
Jaquan Reeder won boys’ high jump for Hackleburg with a mark of 6’. Reeder also won boys’ long jump with a distance of 19’11”.
Lipsey, Brooklyn Parks and Cooper Reese Williams took the top three spots in girls’ long jump.
Phillips’ Natalee Ward won girls’ discus (90’2”), and Marion County’s Sam Williams won the boys’ discus (119’2”).
Brilliant’s Wes Woodard took second with 96’9”, and Hackleburg’s Sawyer Johnson was third (95’6”).
Ward also won girls’ shot put with a mark of 28’9”. Hackleburg’s Luke Herring won boys’ shot put with a mark of 59’3”.
Reeder won another event with a first place finish in the boys’ 300m hurdles in 44.10 seconds. Phillips’ Adarian Thompson finished second, followed by Marion County’s Max Herdzik.
Phillips’ Emma Kate Gilliam placed second in the girls’ 300m hurdles in 1:00.77.
Marion County’s Bailey Woods and Claire LeDuke took first and second in the girls’ 3200m. Stephens won the boys’ 3200m, followed by Phillips’ Levi Nix and Marion County’s Hernandez.
Adrian Randolph won girls’ javelin for the Lady Red Raiders with a mark of 102’. Ward placed second, and Brilliant’s Karagan Stanford placed third.
Phillips’ Hayden Jordan won boys’ javelin with a mark of 129’1”. Hackleburg’s Sawyer Johnson placed second with a mark of 127’7”.
Marion County also won both the boys’ and girls’ 4x800m relays.

Buttahatchee
Hamilton hosted the Buttahatchee Bottom Invite on Thursday, March 13, which was the first meet ever hosted in the new track facility.
The Lady Aggies won the girls’ meet with 186 points, over Corinth with 154 points. The boys narrowly lost to Corinth by 1 point and placed second with 171 points.
In the girls’ meet, Winfield placed third with 83 points. Winfield also placed third in the boys’ meet with 117 points.
Hamilton’s Kyra Casey won the girls’ 100m dash in 12.87 seconds and the 200m in 26.68 seconds.
Winfield’s Kane Hendrix placed second in the boys’ 110m hurdles in 16.27 seconds.
Hamilton’s Gracie Sanderson won the girls’ 300m hurdles in 51.37 seconds, followed by Winfield’s Abigail Ayers in second place in 54.52 seconds.
Hamilton’s Hayden Ables and Nate Hicks won first and second in the boys’ 300m hurdles. Behind them in third place was Hendrix for Winfield.
Sanderson and Jane Wiginton took the first two spots in the girls’ 400m dash for Hamilton. Jane and Ann Wiginton then took the first two spots in the girls’ 800m.
Joshua Webb placed second in the boys’ 800m, behind Haleyville’s Malachi Carroll.
Haleyville’s Cadence Rivera won the girls’ 1600m, and behind her were Hamilton’s Maya Jones in second and Winfield’s Audrey Spillers in third.
Webb and Kaden Whitaker won the first two spots in the boys’ 1600m.
Hamilton’s boys won the 4x400m relay, and the Lady Aggies placed second. Both Hamilton teams won the 4x800m relays.
Hamilton’s Jordan Parker finished second in girls’ high jump with a mark of 5’.
Taylor Biggerstaff and Mia Cole took first and third in girls’ pole vault for the Lady Aggies.
In boys’ pole vault, Hamilton’s Elijah Robinson and Jake Webb took first and second, with Winfield’s Alex Aldridge placing third.
Casey won girls’ long jump for Hamilton, with a distance of 16’4.25”.
Hamilton’s Riley Davis placed third in boys’ long jump with a mark of 17’4.25”.
Sanderson and Parker placed second and third in the girls’ triple jump for Hamilton.
Winfield’s Makayla May won girls’ shot put with a total distance of 32’6”. Sean Wyers won boys’ shot put with a total distance of 47’9”.
Hayden Ables and CeeJay Sizemore brought in more points for the Aggies with first and third place finishes in the boys’ 400m in 50.99 and 53.36 seconds, respectively.
Webb and Whitaker placed first and third in the boys’ 3200m for Hamilton.
The Lady Aggies’ 4x100m team placed second, and the boys’ 4x100m team won.
Winfield’s Wyers and Kaden Williamson won first and second in boys’ discus with marks of 155’6” and 130’5”, respectively.
Hamilton’s Myia Sizemore placed second in girls’ javelin with a distance of 104’3”.
Wyers and Aldridge placed first and third in boys’ javelin for the Pirates with marks of 137’5” and 132’10”.
Finally, Hendrix earned a second place finish in boys’ triple jump with a distance of 39’ 2.75”.

Other meets
Hamilton also competed at the King of the Mountain Invitational in Vestavia Hills on March 7. The girls tied for 12th with Central – Tuscaloosa with 17 points. The boys placed 15th with 14.5 points.
Winfield competed in the Cold Springs Invitation on March 7. The girls placed fifth with 55 points, and the boys placed second with 152 points.
The Marion County Championship meet is scheduled for next Wednesday, April 2.
Winfield will compete in the West Alabama Championship (WAC) meet on the following Wednesday, April 9.
