HACKLEBURG — It was a windy night in Hackleburg Friday, Nov. 8, but the Pickens County Tornadoes were sent home with a 41-6 loss in the first round of playoffs.
The game began with Hackleburg winning the coin toss and deferring to the second half. Kicking off to Pickens County, Panther Aiden Pimentel recovered the ball and set Hackleburg in good position at the Tornado 36 yard-line. Shortly, it was first and goal with Jaquan Reeder on the first touchdown. A good PAT had the score at 7-0, Hackleburg.
Pickens County was forced to punt but recovered, took the ball to first and goal and answered Hackleburg on the touchdown, with honors by Christian Hall. Their 2-point try was no good, and the score was 7-6, Hackleburg. It would be the only score for Pickens County.
Panther Blaise Vickery was next with a touchdown, and a good PAT left the score 14-6.
The second quarter began with Reeder on another score. JonHasten Stidham’s PAT was good again, making the score 21-6.
Pickens County moved the chains but turned the downs over to Hackleburg, and the Tornado defense forced a punt on Hackleburg.
Reeder took an intercept that began a drive, but time ran out before any scoring occurred.
However, Reeder was on pace at the beginning of the third quarter with another touchdown. This time, the PAT missed, and the score was 27-6.
Hackleburg’s defense kept the Tornadoes on their own side of the field, and Noah Tubb grabbed a safety on fourth down, adding two points to make it 29-6.
Vickery was able to score a touchdown at the end of the third, and a no-good PAT made the score 35-6.
The last score was made by Jordyn Simpson in the last quarter, bringing the final score to 41-6.
Vickery completed 3 of 5 passes for 36 yards. In rushing yards, Edge Weeks totaled 118 yards, followed by Reeder at 100 yards and Davin Dulaney at 99 yards. Simpson had 7, and Cam Ingram had 1. Reeder also received 39 yards. The Panthers (now 10-1) will host the Winterboro Bulldogs (8-2) on Friday, Nov. 15.
