HUBBERTVILLE —  The Marion County Red Raiders boys’ and girls’ basketball teams won the Northwest Alabama Conference (NAC) tournament last week.
Marion County traveled to Berry on Thursday night, Dec. 8 for the first round. The Lady Raiders blew Berry away 87-10. The Raiders also won by a wide margin with a score of 86-29.
The Raiders’ top scorer against Berry was Joe Aldridge with 23 points, 11 assists and two blocks. Landon Morrow scored 18 points and recorded 13 rebounds, six steals and four blocks.
The Lady Raiders’ top scorer in that game was Porshia Lipsey with 22 points. Bekah Junkin, Jasmine Wilson and Lilly Robertson each scored 14 points. Alecia Shack scored 10 points, Rachel Roberts scored six, Kaylee Webb scored three and Krissa Comer and Anna Rhea White each scored two.
Also in the first round, Phillips’ boys defeated the Brilliant Tigers 63-41 at Phillips. But Brilliant’s girls defeated Phillips’ girls 72-31.
Hayden Hulsey was Phillips’ top scorer in the boys’ game with 24 points. Lathen Burton scored 12 points, Victor Marchan scored eight and Brayden Ricketts and Chase Burton each scored five points. In the girls’ game, Brilliant’s top scorer was Hadlee Sanderson with 27 points and 14 rebounds. Macy Moore scored 12 points and snagged four steals. Abby Humphries scored eight points and made 10 rebounds.
Lynn’s boys defeated Hackleburg 56-46, but Hackleburg’s girls beat Lynn 53-22.
In the second round for the boys on Dec. 9, Phillips took on Lynn and Hubbertville faced off against the Red Raiders.
In the girls’ tournament, Marion County’s girls were also taking on Hubbertville, and Brilliant took on Hackleburg.
Both Marion County High School teams won, 79-33 for the boys and 73-43 for the girls.
In the boys’ game against the Lions, Landon Morrow was the top scorer with 32 points, 18 rebounds, four steals and 10 blocks. Tye Madison scored 19 points, Joe Aldridge scored 16, Jameson Webb scored six, Dee Lipsey scored four and Jake Smith scored two.
In the girls’ game against the Lions, Robinson scored 18 points, Lipsey scored 14 points, Roberts scored 12 points, Shack and Junkin each scored nine points and White scored four points.
Phillips’ boys narrowly lost to the Lynn Bears 41-38.
In that game, Hulsey was Phillips’ top scorer with 10 points. Lathen Burton scored nine, Marchan and Saylor each scored five, Ricketts scored four, Ethan Bailey scored three and Bo Green scored two.
In the final round, the boys’ tournament came down to Marion County and Lynn, and the girls tournament came down to Marion County and Brilliant on Dec. 10.
The Raiders fought off the Bears 71-30, and the Lady Raiders took down the Lady Tigers 70-53.
Robinson was the top scorer in the final game for the Lady Raiders with 23 points. Lipsey scored 19 points, Wilson scored 10 points,  Shack and Roberts each scored six points.  White scored two points.
For the Lady Tigers, Macy Moore was the top scorer with 20 points. Hadlee Sanderson scored nine points and made seven rebounds. Abby Humphries scored eight points and made eight rebounds.
For the boys’ final, Marion County’s top scorer was Joe Aldridge with 25 points. Landon Morrow scored 18 points and made 18 rebounds, three steals and six blocks. Tye Madison scored nine points. Reese Harris, Dee Lipsey and Jameson Webb each scored six points, and Jake Smith scored three.
