HAMILTON — Hamilton ended their season on another loss this past Friday as the Fayette Tigers came to visit Sargent Stadium.
Hamilton came into the game with a 1-8 record and struggled to get things going throughout the season.
In the first quarter of the game, Fayette scored a touchdown just about six minutes in.
Two minutes into the second quarter, Fayette added to their lead with another touchdown.
Fayette was just as good defensively as they were offensively, as they blocked a punt from Hamilton and ran in a touchdown before the end of the half.
The game was not all doom and gloom for Hamilton, as Kevin McBride scored a touchdown in the second half of the game. He also scored from the two-point conversion.
The Aggies’ defense really seemed to improve in the final half of the game.
Senior Logan Hudson stripped a Fayette player of the ball for a big turnover in the dying stages of the game.
The resurgence from Hamilton was not enough, however, and Fayette was able to hold onto their lead.
The game ended 28-8 in favor of Fayette County.
“I thought we played hard and created several turnovers on defense,” said Hamilton Head Coach Barry Peoples. “This season was filled with key injuries that in some spots we couldn’t overcome. I’m proud of how resilient our kids were and proud of how they fought all year through adversity.”
Hamilton ended their season with a 1-9 record and will not be making a trip to the playoffs.
Despite the loss on the night, the atmosphere in the game wasn’t down.
Before kick-off, Greg Boyette, Hamilton’s number one Aggies fan, took the field and was shown a clip of him winning fan of the week on WBRC Fox 6’s Sideline program.
Boyette also presented referees with the coin for the coin toss before the game started.
