Three county volleyball teams win their area

MARION COUNTY —  Three Marion County teams are playing in the Super Regionals in Huntsville today after winning their areas last Wednesday, Oct. 12.
Marion County played against the Hubbertville Lions last Wednesday afternoon to begin the Class 1A Area 11 tournament in Guin. The Lady Raiders won three sets in a row 25-21, 25-6 and 25-7.
The Brilliant Tigers defeated the Lynn Bears in the second match and faced Marion County in the final match.
The Raiders won all four sets in close games, 25-21, 25-20, 25-22 and 25-14.
The Phillips Bears took on the Hackleburg Panthers first on Wednesday in the Class 1A Area 14 tournament at Belgreen High School, winning the first set 25-18 but losing the second set 23-25. The scores of the final two sets were 25-23 and 25-17, securing their spot in the final round.
Phillips took on Belgreen in the final match, winning the first two sets 25-20 and the third set 25-18.
The Winfield Lady Pirates took on the Fayette Tigers first in the Class 3A Area 9 tournament in Carbon Hill. The Lady Pirates won their first two sets 25-7 and 25-10. They lost the third set 23-25, but won the last set 25-16.
Winfield moved on to face the Carbon Hill Bulldogs, narrowly winning the first set 26-24. The Lady Pirates lost the second set 20-25, but won the third set 25-22. The Pirates lost another set 14-25 and had to play in a final tie-breaker set.
The Pirates won the tie-breaker set 15-11 and secured their spot in the Super Regionals in Huntsville.
