FLORENCE — The Hackleburg Panthers put on a commanding show for their traveling fans this weekend against Shoals Christian in Florence Oct. 14.
The Panthers opened the scoring in the game just a few minutes in with a 19- yard touchdown reception from quarterback Blaise Vickery. He also ran in the two-point conversion.
Shoals Christian responded with a touchdown of their own, but Cooper raced toward the end zone for a 58 yard touchdown run just minutes after Shoals looked to be getting into the game.
In the second quarter, Davin Dulany scored a three-yard touchdown run, and Cooper scored another touchdown from a 23 yard reception. The Panthers were only able to score one two-point conversion from their two attempts.
Gavin Heggy also added to the score in the second quarter, with a two-yard touchdown.
Hackleburg wasn’t taking their foot off the gas in the second half, with Heggy scoring again from a 22 yard reception from Vickery.
Shoals Christian responded with a long 61 yard touchdown run, but Sawyer Johnson was able to break through and block their extra-point attempt.
With just under three and a half minutes left in the third, the Panthers added to the score through Aiden Pimentel, who scored from a 17 yard touchdown reception from quarterback Maddox Vickery.
In the final quarter of the game, Hackleburg was unable to score and let Shoals Christian score a 46 yard touchdown reception, but the game was too far gone for any late drama in Florence.
The final score was 50-20 in favor of the Hackleburg Panthers, who collected their fourth win of the season.
Hackleburg now stands at a record of 4-4 with just three games to go.
Their next game will be this Thursday against Vina away from home.
“This was a good win. We will play at Coosa Christian in the first round,” said Head Coach Rod Hudson.
“We were able to play some young kids that competed and played well.”
