Council approves rezoning district to allow alcohol sales

WINFIELD — The Winfield City Council voted to rezone the parcel of land Pizza Hut is located on to allow alcohol sales during its regular meeting on Tuesday, Sept. 1.
After holding a public hearing to discuss the issue, the council voted to amend the agenda and suspend the rules in order to bring up the re-zoning for immediate consideration and pass the ordinance.
The ordinance, numbered 951, re-zones the property that Pizza Hut sits on from an R-1 residential district to a B-1 business district, which will allow Pizza Hut to sell alcohol.
In other business:
- The council approved a request from Winfield Senior Program Director Susan O’Mary to post a position for a part-time bus driver after a previous holder of that position accepted a job elsewhere;
- Councilman Miles Miles suggested the city revisit the park gym project, currently on hold for budgetary concerns, due to the benefits it could bring to the city;
- The council discussed upcoming paving work, which Mayor Randy Price said should be beginning soon and should hopefully all take place around the same time; and
- The council entered executive session to discuss good name and character before returning to adjourn.
