Hackleburg names Ring city councilman

HACKLEBURG —  The Town of Hackleburg has found its new councilman in newcomer Cody Ring.
After much deliberation, the Town of Hackleburg voted unanimously to put Ring on the council to replace the late Doc Hudson on Monday, Jan. 23, at Hackleburg Town Hall.
Ring, 37, is a Hackleburg resident and former member of the water board.
His wife, Tiffany, is a teacher at Hackleburg Elementary School where his two daughters, Tenley and Tyli attend.

New businesses bring relief to Hackleburg residents

HACKLEBURG — Hackleburg’s new Family Tree and Dollar Tree stores have now officially opened on Friday, Jan. 6, at 115 North Clay Street.
Hackleburg Mayor Darryl Colburn stated plans for the new stores, which sit in the same facility on the property, began in Dec. of 2021.
“It was kind of unique that we really didn’t have to do anything to recruit them here. It was more of just letting them know that we’re excited for such a great company to want to come here, and we’re willing to do anything we can to help them out,“ said Colburn.

Drainage improvements in Hackleburg

Hackleburg is set to receive just under a quarter of a million for road work and drainage improvements.

HACKLEBURG — The Town of Hackleburg has been awarded $225,000 as a part of the $40 million in state transportation funding that was awarded to cities and counties for various road and bridge projects.

Petition starts for Hackleburg’s wet/dry vote

HACKLEBURG — Just weeks after Bear Creek voted no on selling alcohol within their city limits, the Town of Hackleburg is taking signatures on a petition for the same vote.
Currently, Hackleburg is what’s known as a dry town, leaving businesses unable to legally sell alcohol within the limits of the town.

Hackleburg considers dedicated EMS for area

HACKLEBURG — The Town of Hackleburg may soon be looking to have its own dedicated ambulance service serving the area. Mayor Darryl Colburn spoke with the Journal Record, stating that, while no official discussions have taken place, the town is considering looking at options to better emergency services for residents in the northside of Marion County.

Hackleburg water tower restoration begins

Omaha, Nebraska-based painting crew Viking Painting begins work on restoring Hackleburg’s water towers.

Hackleburg began its water tower restoration project on Thursday, Jan. 13, starting with the water tower located right behind the Hackleburg Market grocery store.

Crews began work early in the morning washing and painting the water tower and will continue to restore Hackleburg's water towers.

At the end of last year, Hackleburg, using their $300,000 American Rescue Act funds, began the project after failing inspections on two out of three of their water towers in the previous year.

Wrestling event to feature ‘Action’ Mike Jackson in Hackleburg

HACKLEBURG - Central Championship wrestling will present Star Wars-2019, a professional wrestling spectacle at the Hackleburg Recreation Center on Saturday, Feb. 2 at 7:30 p.m. Four matches will take place that will feature such stars as Johnny Swinger, “Action” Mike Jackson, “Hotshot” Bubba Cagle, Mexican Superstar Antonio Garza, Ultimate Dragon, “The King” Cody Windham, and The America Brawlers.
