HAMILTON —During the grand finale of the “Best of Hamilton” awards during the chamber’s annual “Dinner on First” event on April 22, pastor Jeff Fleming was chosen as “Citizen of the Year.”
There were more than 1,000 online votes cast in all the different business categories and for “Citizen of the Year,” with voters in 2025 selecting Fleming for the top individual honor.
Besides being the pastor of the Barnesville Free Will Baptist Church, Fleming headed the Community Action Agency in Hamilton for 13 years. He also volunteered as a youth baseball coach for a number of years, among many other acts of community service, some of which are mentioned by those writing his bio and introducing his category, as follows.
“Jeff Fleming is a compassionate and selfless man who lives out his love for Jesus by serving others in countless ways,” said chamber board member Ryan Knight, who did a wonderful job of emceeing Dinner on First.
“As the current pastor at Barnesville FWB Church in Hamilton, he leads with kindness and a genuine heart for his congregation and community.
“Whether it’s volunteering at schools, supporting local organizations, helping at church events or cheering on young athletes at sporting events, Jeff is always ready to lend a hand.
“Together with his wife, Dana, Jeff cherishes his role as a loving husband and father. They have a daughter, Amy, who is married to Jeremy Sanderson, and they have a son, Brodie. Their son, Patrick, is married to Abby, and they have two sons, Cole and Cooper. Jeff also takes great pride in being a devoted ‘G-Daddy’ to his grandchildren.
“A familiar face around town, Jeff is also an avid runner. No matter the weather, you might spot him running through the streets of Hamilton, rain or shine. His determination and passion for staying active are just another reflection of his steadfast spirit.
“Jeff’s caring heart extends to those facing some of life’s hardest moments. He often answers the call to minister to grieving families, offering comfort and conducting funerals for those without a church home or pastor.
