Larry Cox
Larry Cox died on Sunday, March 15, 2026, at the age of 78, at the home of his daughter in Orlando, Fla. Born March 21, 1947, in Hamilton, Ala., he was the son of the late James Cox and Vada Tice Cox.
He grew up in Hamilton and graduated as a member of the Hamilton High School Class of 1965 before completing a refrigeration and air‑conditioning program at Northwest Alabama State Technical College.
Larry began his career locally in Hamilton, later working in Huntsville for Huntsville Utilities. He then moved to Fort Lauderdale, where he built a respected career in commercial pneumatic controls. After relocating to the Central Florida/Orlando area, he continued his work in the field, contributing to projects at Walt Disney World and several major hotels. As a member of MCASF Local 725, he also worked in the Cayman Islands.
He is lovingly remembered by his wife of 59 years, Margie; his daughter Lisa and son‑in‑law Alex; his sister Wanda Skinner and her late husband John L. Skinner of Hamilton; and his younger sister Brenda Davison and her husband Jim. He also remained close to his sisters‑in‑law, Karen Graben and the late Dr. Ruby Nell Nicholson, and to Karen’s husband, Rick Graben, both cousin and dear friend. He is survived as well by many nieces and nephews.
Larry found his greatest joy outdoors, especially on the water bass fishing. Living across from a lake gave him endless opportunities to fish, and he especially loved Lake Kissimmee, the Harris Chain of Lakes and Lake Okeechobee. He treasured visits from his brother‑in‑law and friend, Rick Graben, and Rick’s son, Alex. He loved football, especially college football, and he rarely missed an Alabama Crimson Tide game.
A graveside service at Phil Campbell Cemetery will be held in the summer of 2026.
