Hubbertville upsets Hackleburg’s winning streak in last season game

HUBBERTVILLE — After winning nine games in a row, the Hackleburg Panthers lost the last regular season game against the Hubbertville Lions 28-22 Friday, Nov. 1.
The Lions won the toss and elected to receive the ball on opening kickoff. Hackleburg’s defense kept things tight and forced a punt before the Lions could get in Hackleburg’s territory, but the Lions returned the favor by forcing Hackleburg to punt.
At the end of the first, a pass was intercepted by Jaquan Reeder, and Cam Ingram took in a touchdown on a 43-yard pass. JonHasten Stidham’s kick was good, lighting up the scoreboard 7-0 in favor of the Panthers.
The Lions answered in the beginning of the second with a complete pass to Jack Lakey for a touchdown. A good PAT tied the score at 7.
Back in control of the ball, Panther Blaise Vickery had a 42-yard run to the 4-yard line, bringing up first and goal. Reeder was able to take it over the line, and a good PAT put the Panthers in the lead at 14-7.
However, the Lions answered again, with a complete pass to Kane Rushing for a touchdown. A kick astray left Hackleburg narrowly leading at 14-13.
The onside kick by the Lions was recovered by Lakey, keeping the ball with the Lions. The Panthers were able to stop a touchdown, but a field goal by the Lions at the end of the half put them in the lead at 16-14.
A fumble on Hackleburg’s side at the beginning of the third and subsequent recovery by the Lions left Hubbertville in possession. Jordan Dodd had the honors for a touchdown, but another failed PAT made the score 22-14, Hubbertville.
Ingram was able to get the last score for Hackleburg on a 58-yard pass from Vickery, and Reeder took it in for 2, tying the score again at 22.
A complete pass to Rushing in the fourth quarter put the Lions in the lead. A no-good PAT left the score 28-22, Hubbertville.
Vickery completed 4 of 7 attempts for 122 yards, while he had 76 yards in rushing. Reeder had 56 in rushing, along with 11 from Davin Dulaney. Ingram had 112 yards in receiving with Daughtry Gober at 10 yards.
Hackleburg will host Pickens County in the first round of playoffs this Friday night.
