Back through the years in Marion County...

hhs football 1948

Research indicates this is the starting lineup for the 1947 Hamilton High School Aggies football squad. The photo was submitted by Barbara Webb.
This picture was reproduced in a book with the names being out of order and one missing. Through research and comparing the players in this photo to other photos, we have found what we believe to be the correct order of the names.
Back row, from left, are Coach Solon Gregg, Redus Lee, Rufus Northam, H.L. Wiginton, Jimmy Green (possibly) and Edgar Nixon. Front row, from left, are, Shirley Palmer, James Avery, Billy Weeks (possibly), Paul Dyar, Ed Tyndal, Earlie Nelson and Dean Fikes.
The out-of-order names originally included Bill Godsey and John Belk.
The 1947 season ended with a record of 8-2. The two losses were to Sulligent and Haleyville. The eight games they won were against Red Bay, Hackleburg, Tuscaloosa County, Brilliant, Winston County, Fayette County, Winfield and Marion County. They scored 194 points and allowed 79.
Gregg  coached and taught at Hamilton for the 1946 and 1947 school years. The 1946 team lost only once.
