FRANKLIN COUNTY — Marion County Sheriff’s Department Court Liaison Tiffany Lucas Carruth was arrested this past weekend after having her vehicle searched in Vina.
Carruth, 42, of Hamilton, was arrested after being stopped at a driver license checkpoint, according to Marion County Sheriff Kevin Williams.
Williams stated during the stop, Franklin County Deputies smelled an odor of marijuana and conducted a search.
During their search, deputies found marijuana, an open container of alcohol and drug paraphernalia.

HAMILTON — Traffic on Interstate 22 heading eastbound was held up for over an hour after a FedEx tractor trailer turned over onto its left hand side, blocking both lanes of traffic.
The accident took place on Thursday afternoon, Feb. 16, near Exit 3 on I-22.
Jordan Carter with the Byrd Fire Department stated BFD, Shottsville Fire Department, Marion County Sheriff’s Department, Marion County Emergency Management Agency and the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency all responded to the accident.

DOUBLE SPRINGS — Marion County Sheriff’s Deputies aided law enforcement and first responders during the stand off shootout situation that took place in Double Springs on the night of Tuesday, Jan. 17.
Jefferey Lee Adair, 48, of 301 Old Union Road, Haleyville, surrendered to law enforcement at approximately 10 p.m.

HAMILTON — Human remains were found on the west side of Hamilton this weekend after a resident was outdoors with their dog.
According to Hamilton Police Sergeant Scotty Chandler, the resident was chasing her escaped dog when the remains were discovered near the 600 block of Bexar Avenue West in Hamilton.

HAMILTON — Marion County Sheriff Kevin Williams has his hands full as jailer turnover has been high and jail construction is revving up.
“The issue I’ve got is that jailers are underpaid, in my opinion,” said Williams. “People are leaving the job for other jobs that pay a lot more.”
Williams stated that top-out pay for jailers lands at $14.56 per hour.
“The jailer’s job is not a strenuous job, it’s not a manual (labor) job, but it is very stressful,” said Williams.

HAMILTON —Hamilton resident James Ray McCracken was arrested on suspected murder in the first degree charges this weekend on Saturday, July 23, in Hamilton.
The Hamilton Police Department, along with the Marion County Sheriff’s Department, made the arrest on the day of the incident.
McCracken, 77, born in November of 1944, is currently being held in the Marion County Jail in Hamilton on a $500,000 bond.

A high-speed chase ended with four men from Memphis, Tenn., being apprehended in a wooded area near Interstate 22’s Exit 22.
According to Marion County Sheriff Kevin Williams, Aubrey Smith Jr., 20; Tyrez LeRick Sheton, 21; Detarius Harris, 18; and Deven D. Rolfe, 21, were all arrested and charged individually with attempting to elude, reckless endangerment and possession of marijuana.
