FedEx truck overturns on I-22

HAMILTON — Traffic on Interstate 22 heading eastbound was held up for over an hour after a FedEx tractor trailer turned over onto its left hand side, blocking both lanes of traffic.
The accident took place on Thursday afternoon, Feb. 16, near Exit 3 on I-22.
Jordan Carter with the Byrd Fire Department stated BFD, Shottsville Fire Department, Marion County Sheriff’s Department, Marion County Emergency Management Agency and the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency all responded to the accident.

Byrd Fire Department assists with two structure fires early Christmas morning.

DETROIT — While many were wrapped up in their blankets during the intense cold weather on Christmas Eve, the Byrd Fire Department was hard at work responding to a structure fire that took place on Sunday, Dec. 24, on State Highway 19.
On the morning of Christmas Eve, the Byrd Volunteer Fire and Rescue Department was dispatched by Marion County E-911 to a reported structure fire.
When the department arrived, the Marion County Sheriff’s Department stated the house was fully engulfed in flames.

Lightning strikes twice at gas facility

SHOTTSVILLE — Both the Shottsville and Byrd fire departments were called to a major emergency situation during the stormy conditions that occurred on the night of Saturday, July 30.
Shottsville Fire Department was the first to arrive on the scene to respond to the fire located on County Highway 56 at the facility operated by the Tennessee Gas Pipeline Company of Kinder Morgan.
“We just saw a big ball of fire on top of one of the buildings,” said Shottsville Fire  Chief Jeff Williams.

HAMILTON — A tractor trailer fire occurred on Interstate 22 on Thursday, April 14.
At approximately 8:30 a.m., the Byrd and Shottsville volunteer fire departments were dispatched by Marion County E-9-1-1 to the report of a tractor trailer fire on I-22 near mile marker one.  
Upon arrival, firefighters were met with heavy traffic and a well involved tractor trailer fire in a road construction zone. 
Hamilton Fire Department was requested for an additional water tanker.
