WHITEHOUSE — Two Alabama Department of Corrections inmates working with the Alabama Department of Transportation were struck and killed by a vehicle on Wednesday, Aug. 2, on U.S. Highway 278 near the Whitehouse community.
The victims of the single-vehicle accident were Ronnie Steven Cornelius, 30, and Colt Eugene Morris, 40.
“ADOC would like to express its deepest condolences to the families of these two men who were killed in this tragic accident,” said ADOC Corrections Commissioner John Hamm.
Both men were working with the department of transportation out of the Hamilton Aged and Infirmed prison. At the time of the accident, the facility had an 11 man road crew cleaning trash off of the highway.
According to ADOC, all of the workers were wearing reflective vests and safety policies were being followed when the crash occurred.
Agents with the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency are currently investigating the accident.
Information concerning the driver or the cause of the accident are yet to be released by ADOC or ALEA.
