HUBBERTVILLE — The Hubbertville Lions won their homecoming game against the visiting Hackleburg Panthers 51-24 on Friday, Sept. 24.
The Lions were the first to score, only 13 seconds into the game. Gage Alexander ran for 60 yards to score, and with the point after the Lions were ahead 7-0.
With around five minutes left in the first quarter, the Panthers returned fire as Blaise Vickery threw an 11-yard touchdown pass to Josh Cooper. Carter got two points for the Panthers, putting them in a narrow 8-7 lead.
But Alexander ran again with 3:35 left in the quarter, making it 23 yards for another touchdown and extra point. The Lions were leading the Panthers 14-8 at the end of the quarter.
The Lions scored again with 9:19 left in the second quarter as Greyson Key ran nine yards to score and the extra point was good.
