Pirates’ big 1Q leads to blowout win over Tarrant

WINFIELD - The Pirates’ gave up no yards and scored 41 points in the first quarter en route to their first region victory of the season over the Tarrant Wildcats 54-0 on Friday, Sep. 3, at Estes Hudson Stadium.
The win improved Winfield to 3-0 on the season and 1-0 in Class 3A, Region 6. This was Tarrant’s first game since the 2019 season, as the Wildcats forfeited all games last season.
The Pirates offense took advantage of a short field most of the night as Tarrant never crossed the 35-yard line.  
“Any win is a big win especially in region play,” said Winfield head coach David McKinney in an interview following the game. “I’m tickled to death for the win and we got to play a lot of people tonight and I am proud of them.”
