Rev. Jerry W. Williams

Rev. Jerry W. Williams

Rev. Jerry W. Williams, 91, of Winfield, passed from this life on Wednesday, Oct. 1, 2025, in the Northwest Medical Center South Campus in Winfield with family around him. Rev. Williams was born on April 23, 1934, in Cheatham County, Tenn., the son of Thomas Tyree Williams and Ruby Perry Williams.  He married Bonnie Clark Graves, his wife of almost 68 years, on Dec. 20, 1957. Together they served the Lord as he pastored seven churches in four states for over 40 years.
After graduating in 1953 from East High School in Nashville, Tenn., he entered the U.S. Navy in November of that year and served until September 1957. Upon his return from the service, he began studying at Free Will Baptist Bible College (Welch College) in Nashville, where he was employed by Nashville Transit Company as a city bus driver.
In addition to driving city and school buses, Rev. Williams was also a very good painter who always expected excellence. He enjoyed traveling, reading, playing and watching sports such as softball, baseball, corn hole and golf. In his later years, he spent time coloring in coloring books.  He always enjoyed spending time with family.
His love was teaching God’s Word and praying for others. His pastorates included Dumbar Chapel (Tennessee), Zephyr Hills (North Carolina), Shady Grove (Tennessee), Crossroads (Georgia), Cedar Hill (North Carolina), Bellevue (Georgia) and Springfield (Alabama). He did not seek the limelight but was interested in people as individuals. Only heaven will reveal how many people were impacted by his life and ministry.
Survivors include his wife, Bonnie Graves Williams of Winfield; two sons, Danny (Karen) Williams of Winfield and Thomas (Corinna) Williams of Valparaiso, Fla.; granddaughters, Bethany Campbell (Cullman, Ala.), Heather Marck (Madison, Ala.), Audrey Tooley (Rushville, Ind.), Hollis Williams (Valparaiso, Fla.), Jessica Gonce (Church Hill, Tenn.) and Jamie Mabe (Surprise, Ariz.); great-grandchildren, Levi, Adeline, Forrest, Jacson, Alder, Madalynn and Kai.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant son, Michael Lewis Williams and a sister, Peggy Sue Messer.
Funeral services for Rev. Williams were held on Oct. 25, 2025, at the Winfield Freewill Baptist Church with burial following in the Old Union Cemetery.
