LYNN — During the quarter-final round of football playoffs, the Hackleburg Panthers traveled to Lynn once more this season to defeat the Lynn Bears. The two rivals faced each other on Aug. 30, of this year, with Hackleburg the victor at 33-13. Last Friday, Nov. 22, the score was 32-19, with Hackleburg again on top.
Hackleburg received the opening kickoff, with Panther Jaquan Reeder lighting the scoreboard first. With a no good PAT, the score was 6-0, Hackleburg.
The Bears turned the downs over on the next drive, and the Panthers, in several drives, covered 62 yards, with Reeder once again in the end zone. Reeder’s pass to Cam Ingram added two points to make it 14-0, Hackleburg.
In the second quarter, Lynn’s Austin Dodd answered with a touchdown, and with a good PAT, Lynn was on the board 14-7.
Reeder was on the move again for the third touchdown. Edge Weeks took the ball in for a 2-point conversion. After a penalty and a retry on the conversion, the two extra points were no good, giving a score of 20-7, Hackleburg.
Lynn was forced to punt, and on Hackleburg’s possession, Lynn’s David Uptain stole a pass to get the ball back in the Bears’ hands. However, the first half ended before Lynn could score.
Lynn got the chains moving during the third quarter, and after 50 yards, Dodd got his second touchdown on the night. A no good PAT left the score at 20-13, Hackleburg. On second down, two Bears gave Hackleburg’s quarterback Blaise Vickery a sack, while on third down, Lynn’s J.P. Burkett intercepted Vickery’s pass, setting Lynn up around midfield. Hackleburg’s Ingram answered with an interception of his own, though Hackleburg was forced to punt.
As the last quarter rolled in, Vickery’s pass on third down was intercepted once more, this time by Kannen Cheatham, but like Hackleburg, Lynn was forced to punt.
A penalty-fueled touchdown by Reeder was recalled, though the Panthers got it right the next time, and Reeder had the touchdown honors again. The 2-point conversion was no good, but it stretched Hackleburg’s lead to 26-13.
Lynn’s downs were turned over, and Panther Davin Dulaney scored the last touchdown for the Panthers. The PAT was no good, but that left a wide lead for the Panthers at 32-13.
Lynn was not finished. The last touchdown on the night was by Lynn’s Braylen Roberts. The 2-point conversion failed thanks to Hackleburg’s defense, finalizing the score at 32-19, Hackleburg.
The Panthers will travel to Wadley this Friday night for the semi-final round of playoffs.
