Melvin Phillips

 Melvin Millard Phillips, 87, of Hamilton, formerly of Guin in the Pea Ridge community, passed away at his residence on Friday, July 19, 2024. He was born Aug. 15, 1936, in Marion County, Ala. He was the son of the late George Willis and Dora Elizabeth Franks Phillips.
He was a member of the Free Water Freewill Baptist Church and often played piano or organ during services. After working various jobs in Illinois and Alabama, he worked at the former Continental Conveyor for 35 years, which he retired from in Aug. 1998.
Mr. Phillips was an avid piano, organ and guitar player. He loved making music and attending singings. He was a member of the Melody Boys Quartet and later with the Henson Family with Ilene. He also loved traveling, gardening and growing beautiful flowers.
He was preceded in death by his parents; 11 siblings, Tommy, James, Stella, Ed, Mary, Myrtle, Ruby, Audie and three others who died very young; three nieces, Sandra Rivera, Barbara Wilson, Teresa Strohn and one nephew, ‘Junior’ Martin.
He is survived by his nieces and nephews, Martha Fisher of Illinois, Carolyn Davis (Duraine), Naomi McCullar (Lynn), Steve Phillips (Sandy), Tammy Linley, all of Hamilton, George Langley of Fayette, Ala., and Ginger Barnett (Phillip) of Haleyville, Ala.; and a host of great-nieces and nephews, cousins and other family members.
Funeral services were held July 26, 20024 at the Veal Memorial Funeral Home chapel with burial in the Old Liberty Cemetery. Bro. Don Taggert officiated.
