LYNN — The rain poured down for the entirety of Lynn’s season opener against Marion County High Friday, Sept. 1, but the loyal Bears fans stayed in the stands, soaked to the skin as they helped cheer the number 7 in Class 1A team to a 54-18 victory.
With the rain getting heavier, the Bears won the toss and deferred to the second half, starting on defense. The Raiders made it to the midway point of the field, but that was it, and the visitors were punting.
Logan Madison brought the punt up to the 44 to set up shop for the Bears. After a penalty pushed the Bears back, the stadium went dark briefly due to a power outage that was very quickly resolved. The Bears kept pressing foreward, with Cole Kelly getting a first down at the 32-yard line. Kelly rushed into Raider territory soon after. The quarterback Cale Tittle kept it for a first down at the MC 15. A holding penalty on the Bears negated a touchdown run, pushing them back to the 27. Tittle took to the air, finding Kelly and Madison open for short gains, then hitting Austin Dodd on fourth down for the touchdown. Tittle’s PAT was good, and the Bears were up 7-0.
