Hamilton - An estimated 140 volunteers suited up to clean up litter this past weekend.
The Hamilton Anti-Littering Committee hosted it's first “Take Pride in Hamilton” clean-up day on Saturday morning, June 19.
Clean-up events have been a regular occurrence in the city over the past 10 years. However, this event marks the first headed up by the city’s anti-littering committee, which was formed in April and consists of local volunteers Heidi Ledbetter, Sheila Ferdina, Lenn Holloway, Frankie Kimbrell, Kathy Page, Ricky Pierce and Alan West.
“We were overwhelmed by the turnout,” said Hamilton City Councilman Scott Tyra, who oversees the anti-litter group.
The councilman pointed to the city’s new push on social media as part of this event’s success.
