Winfield’s Weldy Home for Children hosted an open house on Wednesday, June 9, to celebrate the home reopening after being closed for two years.
Founded in 1991 and named in honor Russellville physician Joseph F. Weldy, the home provides shelter and care for up to 10 girls ages 6-18. The girls are taken in through collaboration with the Alabama Department of Human Resources.
During the open house event, Lamar County native Monica Chandler was announced and introduced as the home’s new executive director. She has 11-and-a-half years of non-profit experience working in Children’s mental health. She has spent the last 18 months as a therapist in the Hamilton Aged and Infirmed Prison.
