Barn boxing punching up interest

HAMILTON – A group of young men in Hamilton are creating quite the unconventional following by airing local amateur boxing matches live on social media.
The increasingly popular fights are fought in a barn, adding a local flavor to a sport that is somewhat foreign to the area.
A group of 11 17- to 19-year-olds live-streamed their first fight about a year ago as a joke. The idea came spontaneously on a Tuesday in March 2019, the group said, and that Saturday, they had thrown together a make-shift boxing ring and friends Ethan Brumley and Peyton Akers were stepping through the ropes to fight.
The match was streamed live on Instagram under a newly created account “UBL305,” which stands for “Ultimate Boxing League.” The numbers have a personal significance to the group.
