WINFIELD — The Winfield City Council approved the purchase of 13 acres of land adjoining Ivan K. Hill Recreational Park during its regular meeting on Tuesday, Oct. 6.
The land lies between Field 1 and Apple Avenue, and will cost about $40,000. The current plan is for the land to be used for trails for the public as well as cross country.
The council voted to allow the purchase and to allow Mayor Randy Price to sign and execute contracts to do so.
The council also voted to approve the re-appointment of Bobby Bryant to the park board, on which he currently serves as chairman. Park board member Sherry Cunningham spoke highly of Bryant and his years of service to the park on behalf of the board.
Bryant is also the winner of the Alabama Recreation and Parks Association Member of the Year Award.
The council discussed a few other matters of old business, such as the soon-to-begin paving projects. Price said the notice to proceed had been given the Monday after Mule Day, and they have 10 days to begin. Paving will begin in the housing authority.
Councilman Miles Miles secured donated power poles from Continental Conveyor for lighting for the pickleball court, which the city will need to pour concrete for.
