The Cooper Lift Station in Hamilton will be imporved by REV Construction of Tuscaloosa.
HAMILTON —At its Monday, Aug. 18, meeting, the Hamilton City Council awarded the Cooper Lift Station Improvement Project to the lowest bidder, REV Construction of Tuscaloosa, for $1,222,000.
Hamilton Mayor Bob Page explained grant funds in the amount of $850,027 have been awarded to the Hamilton Water Department through the Alabama Department of Environmental Management from their Clean Water State Revolving Fund Loan Program.
“This will leave the Hamilton Water Department owing approximately $372,000 as its obligation for this project,” he said. “This is something we need to get done. And we will be proud of this project when it’s finished.”
During previous meetings, the mayor has explained the project involves replacing deep pumps involved in sewage processing, as well as revamping the station.
He’s noted the Cooper Lift Station is a deep well-lift station that sends the city’s sewage off its main line running by the river on into the processing station where the wastewater is processed.
The well is very deep, more than 40-plus feet in depth, and is also more than four decades old.
During the construction process, the mayor noted, “We’ll have to go down and replace all the pumps and reconnect it back to the main sewer line so it pressurizes our sewer system and sends it on to be processed.”
Also on Aug. 18, the council:
• Approved a recommendation to continue the city’s support of the Hamilton Area Chamber of Commerce, with $55,300 approved for assistance with event costs for the upcoming 2026 fiscal year. Funds will be released after Oct. 1 when the city’s new budget is approved.
“We talked about this during our work session,” Page noted. “They asked us to renew our annual commitment to them, and I recommended we approve this contribution. They made a nice presentation during our work session of what they’re trying to accomplish for us. They now have 106 members, which is phenomenal compared to the years past.”
