No. 4 Winfield finishes regular season 27-1

FAYETTE - Winfield improved to 27-1 on the year with a 77-22 victory over Fayette County on Thursday, Jan. 31.
The Alabama Sports Writers Association’s Class 3A’s fourth-ranked Lady Pirates led the Lady Tigers 35-2 at the end of the first quarter.
Winfield added to its lead in the second by outscoring Fayette County 19-5 to hold a 54-7 advantage at halftime.
The Lady Pirates outscored the Lady Tigers 23-15 in the second half to cap the 55-point victory.

 

No. 5 Aggies win county


The Hamilton Aggies defeated Winfield 76-63 in the finals of the Marion County Varsity Boys Basketball Tournament on Friday, Jan. 25, at Marion County High School. GUIN - Hamilton defeated rival Winfield 76-63 in the Marion County Varsity Boys Basketball Tournament Finals on Friday, Jan. 25.
The victory marked the first time since the 2010-11 season that the Aggies have won the county championship.
The Alabama Sports Writers Association’s Class 5A’s fifth-ranked Aggies led 19-7 at the end of the opening period.

 

Phillips makes it three in a row

GUIN – Phillips’ earned its third-consecutive Marion County Varsity Girls Basketball title with a 67-40 win over Winfield on Friday, Jan. 25.
The game was between two of the Alabama Sports Writers Association’s Top 5 teams in Classes 1A and 3A.
The She Bears entered the contest ranked No. 4 in Class 1A while the Lady Pirates were the second-ranked team in Class 3A.

 

Aggies to host area tournament, rise to No. 5; Marion County, Winfield earn regular season wins

HAMILTON - Hamilton defeated Russellville in Class 5A, Area 14 action 58-49 on Monday, Jan. 14, for the right to host the area tournament.
The Alabama High School Athletic Association’s No. 5-ranked Hamilton saw Ethan Brumley finish with a team-high 15 points. He added six rebounds, six assists and six steals.
Justin Webb had nine points and four steals. Caleb Weeks scored eight points.
Peyton Williams added six points and six rebounds.
With the win, Hamilton improved to 19-4 on the season.
