Mr. Robert William Betts, better known as Bill or “Wee-Willie”, 82, of Winfield passed away on Sunday, Mar. 24, 2024, in the Northwest Medical Center in Winfield. Mr. Betts was born in Trenton, N.J. on June 21, 1941 to Cortland and Adelaide Schwerd Betts. He lived in many places during his life, starting out in New Jersey to New York to Florida, then to California, Arizona, Virginia, and finally to Alabama where he lived out the remainder of his life. Mr. Betts attended East Winfield Church of Christ and was a United States Marine Veteran. He had many careers during his life, some of which were Hi-Speed Electric in New York, doing security work, a typesetter, maintenance worker, and pest control. Bill was an all-around hard worker and a self-proclaimed “jack of all trades and master of none”. In his spare time, Bill was very active and adventurous. In his younger years, he enjoyed skydiving, parachute rigging, being a pilot, and taking road trips on his motorcycle and plane trips. Bill was known for always having a joke and his ability to talk to anyone about anything.
Bill is survived by his wife of 53 years, Shirley Wall Betts; children, Robert “Bob” Betts, Jr. (Tammy), Michael Betts, John Betts, James “Jim” Betts, Solon Betts (Sonja), Victoria “Tori” Braley; grandchildren, Cortland, Angelina, David, Rachelle, Ashely, Alexis, Alicia, Brittnay, Michael (Jehna) Jorja, Ted (Samantha) Dakota, Dustin and Robby (Katelyn); fifteen great-grandchildren; sister, Jo Rett Redman; and a host of beloved nieces and nephews and other relatives, friends and various extended family members and in-laws. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Frederick “Rick” Betts; and brother-in-law and best friend, Daryl Redman.
A celebration of life service was be held on Saturday, April 13, 2024, at the Bowen Funeral Home Chapel.
