The Pirates received the opening kickoff and could not get the offense going on their first drive punting to the Wildcats.
Tarrant also couldn’t get anything going on its first drive, punting back to Winfield.
The Pirates began their second drive at the Wildcats’ 39-yard line, and Hughes went to work picking up 9 yards on first down and later gaining 10 more down to the Wildcats’ 21. Hughes gained 2 more on the next play, found a gap in the defense and raced 19 yards for the touchdown.

Winfield got on the board again on its next drive as Quarterback Brady May threw a screen pass to D’Angelo Bankhead for a 49-yard touchdown.
Barnes’ extra point was good to push the Winfield lead to 14-0.
On the Wildcats' ensuing drive, the offense never could get its footing and was forced to punt, but the snap was high on the punt and the football rolled out of the back of the end zone to give the Pirates a safety and extended their lead to 16-0.
After the free kick following a safety, Winfield took over at their own 38. Declyn Morgan picked up 9 yards, and then Hughes broke free into the secondary and scampered 53 yards for a touchdown.
Barnes added the extra point to move the score to 23-0 still in the first quarter.
Hughes kept the rushing attack going with another touchdown run of 14 yards to cap a 5-play, 28-yard scoring drive and with Barnes extra point, the Pirates lead grew to 30-0 in the second stanza.
Just before halftime, Hughes added his fourth score of the night on a 4-yard run, and with Morgan’s 2-point conversion run the lead stretched to 38-0 at the half.
The defense got on the scoreboard to begin the second half as Hayden Ballard intercepted a pass and ran it 15 yards into the end zone for a pick-six touchdown. With the extra point by Barnes, the lead grew again to 45-0.
The Pirates added one more score in the third quarter as Jamykal Hackman broke through the Wildcats’ defense for a 38-yard touchdown run, and the extra point from Barnes moved the score to 52-0.
Tarrant got on the board on the ensuing drive as Andre Raines found a wide-open John Scott for a touchdown pass and catch to cut the lead to 52-6 with 57 seconds remaining in the third quarter.
Both teams emptied their benches as the clock hit zeros, and the Pirates secured the 52-6 victory.
