Winfield Pirates win West Alabama Conference

WINFIELD — The Winfield Pirates won the West Alabama Conference track meet on Wednesday, March 29.
Winfield hosted the meet, which also included teams from Fayette, Covenant Christian, Lamar County, South Lamar and Sulligent.
The boys’ meet was close, with Winfield and Fayette tied at 168 points after boys’ javelin.
Winfield’s 4x400 team, consisting of Dawson Klein, Wes Estes, Dylan Benton and Dacian Williams, won the relay with a time of 3:51.72 and secured victory for the Pirates.
Winfield’s boys narrowly won with 178 points, followed by Fayette in second place with 176 points, Lamar County third with 40 points and Sulligent fourth with 36 points.
In the girls meet, Sulligent finished fourth 44 points, Winfield placed third with 54 points, Lamar County finished second with 62 points and Fayette won with 245 points.
Winfield had several relay teams and individuals finish in the top three in their events.
Winfield’s girls finished third in the 4x100, with Ella Chaffin, Tatum Franks, Miley Franks and Abygail Ayers making up the team. The boys 4x100 team also placed third, consisting of Gunner Cagle, Keylan Hughes, Dacian Williams and Jarett Hosch.
Andrew Wallace won the boys’ 100-meter dash in 11.05 seconds, and Hosch won the 200 in 23.14 seconds.
In the 300-meter hurdles, Kane Hendrix placed second with a time of 49.93 seconds.
Chaffin finished in second place in the girls’ 400 with a time of 1:08.43.
Hosch and Estes took second and third in the boys’ 400 with times of 53.92 and 56.97, respectively.
Klein and Estes took second and third in the 800, with times of 2:19.54 and 2:26.61.
Audrey Spillers placed third in the girls’ 1600 with a time of 6:35.53.
Klein finished second in the boys’ 3200 in 12:42.07.
Winfield’s girls placed second in the 4x400 thanks to Chaffin, Miley, Tatum Franks and Spillers, who finished the relay in 5:06.57.
Winfield’s girls also finished second in the 4x800, thanks to Madison Wennberg, Spillers, Dalayna Porter and Tatum Franks, who finished in 13:17.01.
Winfield’s boys also finished second in the 4x800, thanks to Estes, Klein, Will May and Dylan Benton, who finished in 9:53.24.
Wallace placed second in boys’ long jump with a total mark of 19-05.25. He also earned second in triple jump with a mark of 37-07.
In high jump, Camden Elliot and Aidan Quinn tied for second place with marks of 5-06.
Winfield swept pole vault by default, with Will May and Alex Aldridge tying after clearing 9-00.
Sean Wyers and Adan Aldridge took second and third in discus with total distances of 110-08 and 102-07 respectively.
Arie McCollum placed second in girls’ javelin with a total distance of 85-06. She also won girls’ shot put with 32-04.50.
Adan Aldridge and Nicholas Haney took the top two spots in boys’ javelin with 147-06 and 128-11.
Finally, Adan Aldridge won boys’ shot put with a total distance of 41.01.75.
